Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 2026
This privacy policy explains how RainRoute ("we", "us", or "our") handles your information when you use our mobile application and website. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.
RainRoute App
Data We Collect
RainRoute is designed with privacy as a core principle. Here's what you should know:
- No account required — Use the app without providing personal information
- No analytics or tracking — We do not use Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, or any tracking tools
- No advertising — The app contains no advertisements or ad-related tracking
- Local-first design — All your data stays on your device
Location Data
RainRoute requires location access to function. Here's how we handle it:
- What we collect — GPS coordinates for the start and end points of your commute routes
- Why we need it — To calculate weather conditions along your route and provide accurate rain alerts
- Where it's stored — All location data is stored locally on your device only. We do not have servers that store your location data.
- Third-party sharing — Route coordinates are sent to the Open-Meteo API to retrieve weather forecasts (see "Third-Party Services" below)
You can delete all stored location data at any time by uninstalling the app or clearing the app's data through your device settings.
Background Processing
To alert you before scheduled departures, RainRoute performs background weather checks:
- How it works — The app periodically checks weather conditions (approximately every 15 minutes) for your scheduled routes
- What happens — Your route coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo to fetch the latest weather data
- Permission required — On Android, this requires background location permission. You can revoke this permission at any time in your device settings.
- Battery impact — Background checks are optimized to minimize battery usage
Background processing is essential for proactive rain alerts. Without it, the app can only check weather when you open it manually.
Local Storage
The app stores data locally on your device only:
- Routes — Your saved commute routes with start/end coordinates
- Schedules — Your configured departure times
- Preferences — Settings such as notification preferences and display options
This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us or any third party. All data is automatically deleted when you uninstall the app.
Push Notifications
RainRoute uses local notifications to alert you about rain:
- Local only — Notifications are generated entirely on your device, not sent from our servers
- Permission required — You must grant notification permission to receive alerts
- No remote push — We do not use Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) or Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM)
- Your control — You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings
Third-Party Services
RainRoute uses one third-party service:
Open-Meteo Weather API
- What it provides — Weather forecast data including precipitation predictions
- What we send — Only GPS coordinates of your routes (latitude/longitude). No personal identifiers, device IDs, or other personal information is transmitted.
- Their privacy practices — Open-Meteo logs IP addresses for security purposes and deletes them after 90 days. They do not link requests to personal identities.
- License — Weather data is provided under the CC BY 4.0 license
For more information, see Open-Meteo's Terms of Service.
No other third-party services — We do not integrate with analytics providers, advertising networks, crash reporting tools, or any other services that collect user data.
Website
This website (rainroute.pimverlangen.com) is a static site. It does not use cookies, analytics, or tracking of any kind. No personal data is collected, stored, or processed when you visit.
Your Rights
Because all data is stored locally on your device:
- Access — Your data is visible directly in the app
- Deletion — Uninstall the app or clear app data to delete everything
- Portability — We do not hold any of your data, so there's nothing to export from our systems
- Opt-out — Revoke location or notification permissions at any time in your device settings
Children's Privacy
RainRoute is designed for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Since we do not collect any personal data from any users, there is no children's data to protect beyond the general privacy measures already in place.
Data Security
Since we do not collect or store any personal data on our servers, there is no risk of your personal information being compromised through our systems. All app data is stored locally on your device and protected by your device's security measures (encryption, passcode, biometrics).
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
